Weight issues

Weight concerns are very common especially for female adolescents and young female adults. Although females usually experience greater weight concerns, male adolescents and young male adults are increasingly engaging in unhealthy weight changes.

Weight issues can arise from many sources, such as family, friends, peers and the media. People can experience dissatisfaction with the way they look and have a distorted body image. A negative body image can lead to unhealthy behavioural patterns, such as excessive exercise, the use of laxatives or starvation (to name a few). For many, these unhealthy thoughts have lead to unhealthy behavioural changes, which can often lead to eating disorders. Two of the most common eating disorders are Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa. Weight issues may also involve emotional overeating, leading to obesity.

A Life Resolutions® psychologist will establish where one's particular weight concerns have arisen from. From there, the psychologist will guide the client into a healthy way of eating and exercise by helping them respect their body as well as their life.
