Anger-care (A six week course in Dealing with Anger)

A Program aimed at assisting you to manage your anger more effectively

This program is designed to assist people who experience all types of frustrations and anger by providing greater insight and supportive strategies to help you manage your emotions with confidence and improve personal relationships.

Aim of this Program

Most people experience some form of frustration and anger in response to life challenges. In fact at times anger is a useful emotion that signals to us that a need is not being met or that a situation is unfair. When managed effectively, we can contain our anger and act in respectful ways to have our needs met and resolve conflict.

However, for some of us, anger seems to dominate our lives. It could be that you have too much anger which is difficult to manage and/or result in aggression such as yelling and hitting out.  For some, this then interferes with relationships and personal well-being. The purpose of this program is to assist you to regain control over your anger. It is a program that will help to understand your anger, identify your personal triggers, and take you step by step through effective anger management

For people who are mandated to do this program, the course meets all requirements requested by governing bodies.  You will be supplied with all the required documentation.

Who will benefit from this program?
Anyone who is interested in regaining control over their anger, and for those who want to improve personal or work relationships which have been strained by anger, frustration or resentment.

How will the program run?
The program has 2 parts:
• Part 1 - 6 weekly workshops small group sessions of 2 hours duration,
• Part 2 - 6 individual counselling sessions

Sessions are led by an experienced psychologist and will have a mixture of educational information, discussions, practical exercises and activities. This provides an opportunity for sharing experiences and differing view
points – creating support and the strength to change.

• What will the program cover?
Through individual and small group discussions, you will learn how to:
• Identify the ‘early warning signs’ of anger
• Identify the thoughts and feelings that lead to anger and aggression
• Be more aware of your reactions
• Identify and change unhelpful thinking styles and beliefs
• Use physical relaxation techniques
• Better deal with stress
• Communicate more effectively
• Maintain these skills over time

• How much will the program cost?
This program is supported by the ‘Better Access to Mental Health Care’ scheme. If your doctor considers you eligible for a ‘Mental Health Care Plan,’ you can claim part of the cost back through Medicare.
The following payment options are available:

OPTION 1: With Medicare rebate
Part 1 (6 weekly workshops) and Part 2 (6 individual counselling sessions): $508.40

OPTION 2: Full payment with no rebate
Full payment for part 1 (6 weekly workshops) and Part 2 (6 individual counselling sessions): $1235.00

OPTION 3: Part 1 only with no rebate
(6 weekly workshops) with no rebate: $425.40

A deposit of $400 must be paid at the time of booking to confirm your place. This covers the first part of the program and the balance is paid in installments throughout the course.

• How do I claim a Medicare rebate?
Your doctor (GP) determines whether you are eligible for a ‘Mental Health Care Plan’. You can then claim the Medicare rebate for your individual component through the Eftpos terminal after attending each session – this gives you the refund straight into your bank account. Medicare rebate for the group component is received at completion of all 6 sessions.
