A course for managing anxiety
This program is designed to assist people who feel that worry, panic or fears are holding them back from what they want to get out of life. The course aims to provide greater insight and supportive strategies to help you overcome your fears and worries so you can achieve your personal goals.
Who will benefit from this course?
This course will benefit people who experience worries or fears that hold them back from reaching their potential. It's designed for people who feel constantly stressed, experience generalised or social anxiety and/or panic attacks. It will be of particular benefit to anyone wanting to catch out their self-defeating inner critic and put it to the test!
What will be covered in the group?
The program is based on cognitive behavioural and mindfulness approaches. Through both interactive and educational components, you will learn:
- To understand anxiety, its causes and what keeps it going
- Ways of having a more relaxed lifestyle
- How thinking styles can affect our experience of anxiety
- New ways of thinking and behaving that help overcome anxiety
- To safely confront situations that you avoid
- Strategies for managing uncomfortable body sensations, thoughts and emotions
- Ways of maintaining your gains and skills over time
- How to have a calmer and happier outlook on life
What is included in the course?
The program consists of six group appointments which are all conducted by experienced Life Resolutions Psychologists. Groups have no more than 10 members so are small enough to allow for sharing and experiences, and for finding support in one another.
This course uses Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness approaches. Research has shown these approaches to be effective for the treatment of anxiety concerns. All the skills and strategies discussed will be summarised for you to keep in the course resource booklet.
When and where will the program run?
Date: Groups run weekly for six weeks from end of April/Start of May.
Time: Starts promptly at 7pm. Finishes about 9:15pm.
Location: Life Resolutions Brunswick, 343 Brunswick Road, Brunswick VIC 3013.
How much will the program cost?
The cost of the full program is $540. However, with the Medicare rebate, the full cost is $189.60, which is approximately $15 per hour of therapy.
How do I claim a Medicare Rebate?
This program is supported by the ‘Better Access to Mental Health Care’ scheme. Therefore, if your doctor considers you eligible for a mental health care plan, you can claim part of the cost of this program through Medicare. The cost of the program with Medicare Rebate will be $189.60.
