Looking to Recruit? Tips from Director Jodie Brenton & Mary Magalotti

Are you looking to grow your business by bringing in more staff members? Identifying and hiring the best-suited staff members for your business is often more difficult than expected. While a prospective employee may look good on paper, they may have a personality that does not mesh with your workplace, or they could even be lying in their CV. Quality staff members are key to the success of a business, so your businesses hiring process must be effective in identifying the best prospective employees to join your team.

As the CEO and founder of Life Resolutions, Jodie Brenton has a wealth of experience and knowledge in the hiring process. And, lucky for you, she is happy to share her insider’s tips to help you to find the perfect employees to join your business.

Jodie Brenton’s Insider’s Tips

If there is one thing you take away from this blog post, it is the importance of RESEARCH. When you have multiple applicants of seemingly equally qualified and competent prospective employees, it is hard to decide which individual will best suit your business’s needs. Often, the hiring manager will rely on their ‘gut instinct’, rather than concrete reason, and this often results in employees being hired that may not be perfect for the position or may not fit into your team. To tackle this, Jodie has developed a hiring process that ensures she is able to make an informed decision in the hiring of prospective employees that fit the business requirements of Life Resolutions.

To find the best employees for your business, put the following tips into practice:

  1. Ask for references, and follow up! Call multiple references and interview them thoroughly on your prospective employee to ensure you have all the information you need.
  2. Ask your applicants to complete a personality test such as Myer Briggs or Big 5 Profiles to ensure they are someone that will mesh well into your team.
  3. Give your applicants hands-on tasks to complete to determine their skill set in real-time.
  4. Involve the whole team. Ask for the opinion of other team members, because, after all, you will all be working together.
