Counselling is a professional and confidential service that helps someone become more emotionally healthy and self-aware. Families, groups, and individuals seek all sorts of counselling depending on the issues they experience in their lives. Counselling sessions can help you gain a better understanding of how you think and feel as well as how you can interact with yourself and others for a more fruitful life.

A psychologist is trained to study the science of mental processes and human behaviours with the help of research. These findings are used to help aid people in times of distress, change negative thinking and behaviour, as well as help develop self-awareness.

As such, all psychologists in Life Resolutions are trained for at least four years in university, with an additional two years of advanced training or training under the supervision of a registered psychologist. A Life Resolutions psychologist with a specialist degree such as Sports Psychologist has studied at least six years in university.

Psychologists, given their training, are qualified to do a wide variety of therapies and treatments for individuals that may need them. Of course, this means the clients themselves are an integral part of their sessions as the information they share will be the basis of their treatments.

Psychologists use non-drug-based treatments and do not prescribe medication. However, where appropriate, they may work with medical practitioners such as GPs that can prescribe medication but only with your knowledge and consent.

Life Resolutions psychologists are certified to write psychological reports, especially should you need them for circumstances such as Work Cover claims, TACs, NDIS and court proceedings. It would help to take note; however, that writing them will cost you a fee aside from your psychological consultations. These details will be discussed with you prior to the creation of the report, and you will have to pay first before your copy of the report is given.

All psychologists here at Life Resolutions follow regulations as stated in the Psychology Board of Australia’s Code of Ethics. This means all of your sessions will be confidential and private. The information you share will only be used to help assess, diagnose, and treat your problems and allow us to develop means of the best support for you.

However, limitations to our rules of confidentiality apply when there is an immediate danger to you or people around you, or if your file has been subpoenaed by law.

Counselling is for anyone who wants to take a step towards improving their lives. A qualified psychologist can ease you into adjusting to various situations and circumstances in your life by helping you grow emotionally and mentally.

The first question your Life Resolutions Psychologist will tend to ask is “What brings you here today?” They will often ask some general questions about you and your life so they can start to understand how they can best assist you with your problem. Your psychologist will also give you an overview of what you can expect from your counselling experience and discuss the first steps and strategies you can take to start making a positive emotional change in your life.

Everyone has different circumstances in life, and as such, people who seek counselling take different times to apply their lessons towards making a meaningful change in their lives. Sometimes, people get to resolve their issues with a small number of sessions. Sometimes, others prefer to work on their long-term emotional development and will choose to schedule sessions regularly.
