Who we are

As a psychologist I am rewarded to be part of enabling our clients to make life changes whether it be in helping them to understand their behaviours in difficult situations, finding coping strategies or pursuing life goals. As the principal psychologist I enjoy leading our team of psychologists and counsellors in providing support and care for our clients.

Our practice is in Kingsford which is a diverse community and has a range of needs from overseas students struggling with isolation, new mothers experiencing sleep deprivation to workplaces that are tense. We also provide a range of assessment services for developmental issues such as ADHD, autism and learning difficulties, and work with the child, family and school for better outcomes.

Our practice is open six days per week (Monday through to Saturday) with extended hours from 8.00am until 10.00pm to provide convenience and accessibility of services. We have five psychologists and one relationship counsellor and between us we deal with anxiety, depression, addictions, trauma, couple and family relationships, as well as eating disorders and life coaching. We also provide specialised medico-legal reports.

Our Approach

Making your first phone call to us is the hardest step. Once you have outlined what support you are needing, You will be booked into an appointment and your psychologist will contact you to introduce her/himself. This can “break the ice”. From your first session you will be talking about what brought you to counselling and what you are wanting from your sessions.  Your psychologist will then be able to outline what you can expect to gain and how long that can take. Most people want something that they can use in their everyday lives such as ”tools” to manage. Most people attend on average six sessions to gain their resolve. Our psychologists use models of therapy that are considered to be outcome and evidenced based -that means they work!

Your relationship with your psychologist will be one where you work together to get what you need. You can expect complete confidentiality, respect, consideration and acceptance from your psychologist. Every attempt is made to put you with the psychologist that is best fit for you so we have both male and female psychologists on staff.

What we believe

What drives our psychological approach is a passion to equip people to negotiate the ups and downs of their lives. It is central belief that we all have the ability to come up with the best way to live our lives. What stops us is sometimes feeling very overwhelmed by what is going on, and we become “foggy” about he way forward. Spending time with a skilled but supportive psychologist, can enable us. Psychology is about empowering the human spirit.

We use models of therapy such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy inclusive of Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT with Mindfulness), Brief Therapy, Sandtray and Art Therapy and Progressive Relaxation. We have included bio-feedback and neuro- feedback training as an adjunct therapy, particularly for trauma and developmental issues. We run courses in weight loss, anger management, social and parenting skills. We draw on our backgrounds of education, clinical and group work to be able to deliver.

Our work with Medical Rebates

The Australian Government’s Better Access to Medical Health Care scheme ensures people can receive Medicare rebates for psychological treatment by registered psychologists.

With this financial assistant, the government aims to give people with mental health problems better access to the treatment they need.

To access the Medicare Rebate, you need your GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician to complete a detailed mental health assessment and prepare a Mental Health Treatment Plan before referring you to a psychologist.

You may be eligible to receive Medicare rebates immediately into your bank account when paying for your session by cash, credit card, EFTPOS or cheque at all Life Resolutions locations.
