Eating Disorders

Eating disorders can afflict both female and male sufferers. A common denominator is a skewed self- body image and a need for empowerment.

Common Eating Disorders include:

Anorexia Nervosa: Anorexia Nervosa is characterised by self-imposed starvation and unhealthy body weight. It is often accompanied with excessive exercise and abuse of diuretics and laxatives.

Bulimia Nervosa: Bulimia Nervosa involves cycles of binge eating followed by purging (vomiting), excessive consumption of laxatives, excessive exercise, and/or restrictive eating. Body weight can be within normal limits.

Binge Eating Disorder: Binge Eating Disorder involves eating without any compensatory behaviour (such as purging or laxatives). This can result in dramatic fluctuations in weight.
